DESIGN PROCESS

The design process began with loose analogue sketches, from which a consistent visual language of free flowing contours and angled cuts emerged. As the work moved into the digital phase, the cuts evolved from sharp to rounded end points, giving the letterforms a sense of fluid momentum. The central concept crystallized around erosion shaped riverbanks, with letterforms evoking a bird's eye view of a landscape carved by water. Later, an ink trap at the source of the stream was established, connecting the typeface to classical typographic tradition while maintaining a contemporary display aesthetic. The erosion dynamic was directly embedded into the variable axis. As the weight increased, the letterforms became progressively thinner while the connectors remained unchanged, mirroring the way water gradually erodes the land around a fixed channel. Whitespace at the beginning and end of words further reinforced the concept, creating the impression of terrain separated by flowing water.
